The book geography of sociolinguistics is an outcome of extensive research under the supervision of professor Aijazuddin Ahmad at CSRD. JNU, New Delhi. It has a rich review of literature on the issues of linguistic Diversity, Bilingualism, language shift and Pidgin language (it becomes Creole language with the development of its grammar and literature. The Chotanagpur is Linguistically a diversified region not only being the homeland of numerically four tribes namely Santhals, Mundas, Hos and Oraons who have their well identified cores and peripheries, but also due to the presence of regionally dominant non-tribal languages being used as medium of communication in education and official circles. The process of social and economic development has broken the age-old linguistic isolation of the tribes who have become not only bilinguals in regional languages, but some of them have even shifted over to another languages by abandoning their traditional mother tongue. withdrawal of a tribal language from outer domain and its restricted usage in the inner domain gradually leads to language shift. Sdri is a Pidgin language in this region which has originated with the mixture of tribal and non-tribal languages; and its own distributional pattern. this book would prove a worthwhile publication in the field of linguistic geography on the one hand.
