Summary: Women population occupies almost half of the total population in india as well as in North-East India. In India, women were treated as equals of their counterpart in the rich and enlighten societies of the past. But the truth is that in the modern india, the women have always been treated as a second class citizen, continued to target the sources of all the violence and ill-will towards women. However, we can not deny the fact that women are contributing a lot for overall development of our country. Considering all these facts, an attempt has been made in this book to focus women empowerment through their involvement in socio-economic as well as political field of the society. All total 28 papers have been included in this book which were presented in the National Seminar organized by the Women Cell, Lakhimpur Commerce College, on the topic "Role of Women in Socio-Economic development with special reference to North-East India" held on 5th and 6th may, 2012. These papers have emphasized some of the major issues relating to women community like women empowerment through SHGs, women participation in rural development, women's role in economic develpment, community rights and women, domestic violence against women, women empowerment through education etc. It is expected that this book will help the students, researchers, academicians and planners who are interested and engaged in the field of women empowerment, one of the recent hot topics.
